When it is hot outside, putting one more thing on can seem like the worst possible idea. However, once you learn to use what you wear to keep you cooler it can be a real game changer! I am obsessed with wearing my BUFF® headwear during the summer (and really all year round) because it has become a key tool in keeping cool on hot runs.
So how does the Original BUFF® work this magic?
Pop it in the freezer before you run
I love to get it wet and throw it in the freezer for a few minutes before going out to run. Just be careful not to leave it too long so you don’t it doesn’t freeze solid! If this feels a little too cold, it also works to freeze it without wetting it first but the cold doesn’t last as long.
Soak it on the run
Once the initial cold runs out, it feels amazing to just dunk your BUFF® headwear in water. When I go for my long runs I fill up my water bottle and re-wet my Original BUFF® at every water fountain. When the heat and humidity are climbing it is pretty much the best feeling in the entire world.
Protect your part
Ok, so this may not technically keep you much cooler at the time, but avoiding sunburn on your scalp is a big deal. If you have ever burnt your scalp you know what I mean. While the UV BUFF® blocks about 95% of UV rays, I have also had awesome results and zero scalp sunburns with the Original BUFF®. And that can make a HUGE difference when you run. I used to burn my part all the time because I forgot to put on sunscreen…or I didn’t want my hair to look greasy. Easiest solution ever!
Keep the sweat out of your eyes
This makes more of a psychological difference than a physical one. I hate hate hate when sweat is pouring down my face and in my eyes and just nasty gross everywhere. The Original BUFF® is my saving grace. If you have ever run in mega heat and humidity (I’m looking at you Florida) then you probably know what it feels like to have sweat dripping from your elbows after just one mile. Sure that is still annoying, but not having that same amount of sweat, or really any sweat at all, rolling down your face is fantastic.
Overall, nothing can really keep you from feeling the heat of summer running, but there are ways to make it more bearable!
