As great as summer is, I am so beyond ready for fall to be here! Even though I can’t feel much difference yet, the start of September marks the beginning of fall to me.  And I am welcoming it with open arms and happy legs 🙂

No sweat dripping from your elbows/knees/ankles/etc.

Hello dropping temperatures and goodbye looking like you were drowned after running ten feet.

Fall beer is the best

So we all know that the best part of a run (especially a race) is the beer you drink after.  Fall beer is the greatest thing so that just doubles the fun.

You get faster!

So if you have been slogging it out all summer you might notice that you start to feel faster as the temps drop. I know I do! As much as struggling through the heat and humidity sucks while you are doing it, it can make fall amazing because you finally get to feel all that hard work paying off. (See also: the small perk of training in Florida and racing elsewhere.)  Fall races are an amazing time to test out this newfound speed 🙂

A change of scenery…without the driving

Florida doesn’t really get this particular perk, but most of the rest of the country gets to see the leaves change! After running the same route all summer it may not change everything, but it gives you something new to look at. If you live somewhere with real seasons, please send me pictures!

The dog can run with me again!

After a summer of having to leave Hank home, he can finally join me for adventures again.  More reasonable temperatures mean he can actually run without keeling over from heat stroke.  We had a blast exploring the mountains this summer so I am really missing taking him out with me!

What is your favorite season for running?

Since it is Friday,  am linking up with Mar on the RunYou Signed Up for What?, and Eat Pray Run DC for Friday Five.  Be sure to check it out!

  1. As much as I love summer, I have to admit that you are right and fall running is a bit easier! I live in a climate that gets all seasons so we do have some beautiful fall foliage! I’m glad that Hank can now spend some time outdoors with you without fear of a heat stroke!
